Mixed media – acrylic and paint pen on canvas
This piece is in my Murti Series, which began as an inspiration to paint the Kali murti found here in Melbourne, set against the landscape of the Melton Botanic Gardens.
Over time, the form shifted into a personal expression, and Bhadrakali emerged — fierce and loving.
In this version, I honour my love of Indian folk art while weaving in my own symbolic world. Instead of holding a severed head, Kali holds “Betty the ’Path” — one of my recurring characters, representing the inner obstacles, self-sabotaging patterns, and “creepy beings” we all face. She’s slaying what no longer serves us.
This is a bold, layered piece of contemporary goddess art, blending folk tradition, personal mythology, and the sacred feminine power of transformation and protection.
